cognitive behavioral therapist, nutritional psychologist & neuropsychologist
Dr. Amanda Baten is a New York State-licensed Clinical Psychologist and Certified Nutrition and Holistic Health Counselor. She has a PhD in Psychology from The Wright Institute at Berkeley and a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from San Francisco State University. Before entering private practice, her experience included 10 years of work at hospitals in the San Francisco and New York City areas.
A trained specialist in cognitive behavioral therapy, neuropsychology and nutritional psychology, Dr. Baten incorporates a holistic approach to health in her practice. She believes in treatment of the whole individual and in supporting behavioral change through eating, dietary habits and lifestyle adjustments.
On a practical level, Dr. Baten helps individuals, children, families and couples develop new strategies to change old patterns. She stimulates emotional growth by teaching people to replace their self-defeating thoughts, feelings and actions with new and more effective ones. Patients are taught to identify the dysfunctional beliefs that lead to negative consequences in their mood and behavior as well as to replace poor food and lifestyle choices. She encourages individuals to be responsible for their own emotions, empowering them to change and overcome unhealthy behaviors that interfere with their ability to enjoy life.
Nutritional Psychology, a new and rapidly growing discipline, is based on the premises that mind and body work together and that food and nutrition are directly related to mood, behavior and learning. Environmental toxins and dietary imbalances pose particular challenges for people and add to behavioral, mood and learning dysfunctions.
Dr. Baten also conducts comprehensive, multicomponent psychoeducational/neuropsychological assessments for the evaluation of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and learning disabilities (LD) in both children and adults.
